After you get the siding loosened reattach the corner piece.
Draw a line on the wall along the top of each siding course before you pull the nails.
Lift the unlocked siding to expose the nailing hem of the siding piece below.
You may want to wait for a warm day when the siding will be softer and more pliable.
Pretty simple cut off a small portion of the j channel on the post then fold back the flaps that remain tapping a crease in each of them with a hammer.
Then slide the tool horizontally along the lock to release it.
You need to leave at least 1 4.
Slide the zip tool under the butt edge of the siding hook the locking edge and pull down.
Be sure to leave about 1 8 of the nail exposed to allow the siding to flex.
Whatever your measurement is take at least 1 4 or 1 8 on both sides for the panel to slide back and forth.

So if you want to save yourself the trouble of some intensive vinyl siding repair you might want to cap each corner post before installing it.
